Sep 26, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The key to success in travel publishing is to provide travellers with the information they want and need in a way they has meaning This is how Lonely Planet sales and marketing director, Howard Ralley, sees the industry. The Melbourne-based group has a global reputation, and a significant proportion of its sales are made offshore. There are 500 Lonely Planet guides published in 15 languages, backed by a website and related services. Despite its success, Ralley says the company does not market directly to travellers, who tend to treat "ad-speak" with scepticism.
