Women make great strides back to uni.

Sep 17, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian women now constitute the majority of postgraduate students in many fields. Some institutions such as Victoria University have actively worked to improve gender balance in research degrees. Research showed that financial issues, a lack of role models, and child care issues were major obstacles to many women's aspirations. The university has taken steps such as allocating funding and encouraging staff to undertake research degrees. Men still predominate in areas such as engineering, IT, management and commerce, but the numbers are equal or reversed in other fields.
