Everyday chatter boosts Coles.

Australasian Business Intelligence, September, 2006

Sep 14, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The share price of Australian retailer, Coles Myer, was lifted by speculation about its takeover. The possibility of a private equity consortium raising its $A17.3 billion bid increased the share price to a high of $A14.63 on 14 September 2006. There were also rumours about rival bids, but the stock closed up by $A0.04 at $A14.44. It is thought that US retailer, Wal-Mart, would not make an offer. A report by Merrill Lynch questioned the value of Coles. It felt that its stock was not worth the offered $A14.50 a share unless investors were taking a very long-term view.
