$400m lost in botched jet contract.

Sep 12, 2006 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- BAE Systems is understood to have lost a major defence technology deal. BAE had been contracted to supply $A400m worth of ALR2002 electronic warfare self-protection systems for the Royal Australian Air Force's fleet of F-18 Hornet fighter jets. Defence insiders say such a system is critical to protecting the jets in enemy airspace. The decision to buy ALR2002, which had not even been tested in Hornets, attracted much criticism, and it was recently revealed that Air Force engineers were unable to even install the technology.
