Sep 04, 2006 (CA Charter - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Corporate governance rules have become much tougher as a result of corporate collapses in recent times. There are some who believe that this is slowing the raising of ethical standards in the accounting profession. Associate Professor Stephen Cohen of the University of New South Wales believes that firms were doing a good job addressing ethical issues but are now refocusing on compliance. This issue was recently raised at an industry forum. University of Notre Dame accounting professor Jack Flanagan says the question for the profession is whether to concentrate on principles or simply follow the letter of the law.
