Sep 03, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A new book has been released that combines tourism and Victoria's gold rush history. "The Traveller's Guide to the Goldfields" covers more than 50 towns and cities across the state whose birth was triggered by 19th-century gold discoveries.

Editor Richard Everist was formerly the global publisher of the Lonely Planet guidebooks. He says central Victoria was once the site of thousands of volcanoes, bringing gold to the surface. Everist says the book was originally planned as 192 pages, but so much information was unearthed that it grew to 300 pages. The book was launched in Ballarat.
