Sep 03, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian steel group, BlueScope Steel, has a total commitment to safety. It has reduced accident and death levels in the industry to very, very low levels and each accident is an opportunity to learn how to do better. The group has over 17,000 employees at 84 sites in 17 countries. All employees are trained in safety. The company believes that safety is good business, in terms of costs, employee morale, attracting the best workers, corporate image and ethics. BlueScope has six principles for health and safety - one of which is that management is accountable for safety. Staff are regularly surveyed about safety and this has led to good suggestions.
