Environment focus goes past mere compliance.

Sep 03, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The steel-making industry in Australia has become more environmentally conscious. Steel manufacturers are regulated in terms of emissions control and disposal of hazardous wastes. However, steel groups have gone beyond compliance and have moved to become more actively "green". Groups such as BlueScope Steel have invested heavily in environmental controls. Globally, the International Iron & Steel Institute has worked to develop policies on sustainable development. BlueScope has spent over $A1 million to create an environmental training program for all of its employees.
