Oct 30, 2006 (Herald Sun - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian researchers have found that a healthy diet can reduce acne in teenagers. Nutritional scientists at RMIT University in Victoria found that a higher protein low glycaemic index diet reduced acne by 50 per cent in 12 weeks. Insulin is produced after eating carbohydrates and this was found to trigger acne. The insulin causes hormonal changes which lead to the infection of acne. The healthier diet produced less insulin and therefore reduced acne. The diet could replace or reduce the use of drugs in the treatment and prevention of acne.
