Skill levels: all isn't as it seems.

Australasian Business Intelligence, October, 2006

Byline: Geoff Maslen

Oct 29, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Bob Birrell, of Monash University, and Virginia Rapson have written a new report. The 21-page study, which was commissioned by the Dusseldorp Skills Forum from Monash's Centre for Population & Urban Research, debunks a number of the Australian Government's claims that it is tackling the nation's skilled labour shortage. The report also rejects claims by a number of Federal Government ministers, including Prime Minister John Howard, that the Government has sharply boosted the number of Australians attending university since it took office in 1996.
