Oct 29, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Researchers in Taiwan have done some key research on food allergies in children. Their experiments involve giving "kefir", a fermented milk drink, to mice. This slightly alcoholic drink is often used to wean babies in Eastern Europe. Children under three often suffer from food allergies. Researchers fed the mice both dairy milk and soya versions of "kefir". They found that the drink appeared to inhibit allergic reactions in the mice. Allergy specialists have warned that this work is preliminary and there must be more follow-up studies.
