A penitent Downer says it's winning.
Australasian Business Intelligence, October, 2006
Byline: Henry Byrne
Oct 22, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian engineering contractor, Downer EDI, is trying to regain the confidence of shareholders. In August 2006, the company unexpectedly wrote down $A200 million of bad contracts. This caused its value to fall by over $A700 million, or one third, in a day. MD Stephen Gillies admitted that the company made mistakes and its transparency was questioned. Downer is still suffering from the perception that it manages risk poorly. However, Gillies said that it has very small exposure to fixed-price contracts and is continuing to win plenty of work.
