ATO accused of obstructing litigation practices review.

Oct 23, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The inspector-general of taxation claims that the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has tried to hinder his investigation into its operations. David Vos says in his annual report, released on 23 October 2006, that the ATO had challenged his right to access information, even seeking legal opinion about his powers. Taxpayers Australia CEO Tony Greco says the ATO must accept scrutiny, while the Institute of Chartered Accountants says the inspector-general's work is bringing great benefits to taxpayers.
