Oct 15, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- In January 2007 the "Electoral and Referendum (Electoral Integrity and Other Measures) Act 2006" comes into effect. Swinburne University's Professor of state parliamentary democracy, Brian Costar, has revealed that the disclosure threshold has effectively been raised to $A90,000 given federal, state and territory distinctions between each political party. According to Costar and the University of Queensland's Colin Hughes, a lack of transparency in political donations is the biggest threat to Australia's democratic system.
