Oct 13, 2006 (Weekly Tax Bulletin - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Michael D'Ascenzo expressed some opinions on accountants and lawyers in an address to the Allens Arthur Robinson dinner on 7 September 2006. D'Ascenzo, the Tax Commissioner, noted that he was pleased that tax professionals were having more of a role in terms of providing constructive input to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on how the tax system was operating than may have been the case in the past. However, he noted that the ATO and its counterparts in the US and UK remained concerned over the involvement of some law and accounting firms in aggressive cross-border tax arrangements.
