Oct 10, 2006 (The West Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The mass media sector, both in Australia and globally, is changing. One indication is the acquisition by search engine company Google of the YouTube internet video site. Google is likely to intersperse the streaming videos with advertising, just as it has successfully done on its search page. The internet is seen by many as a major threat to traditional media, with many new and independent sources available. In Australia meanwhile, the Federal Government is struggling to fashion a compromise in its media reforms that would placate those concerned for diversity in rural areas.
