BlueScope delays paying suppliers.

Australasian Business Intelligence, October, 2006

Oct 08, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Small suppliers in Australia have voiced concern about a BlueScope Steel decision. BlueScope has delayed its payment terms for all suppliers by up to three months. This could financially harm small and medium suppliers in the supply chain. Business groups note that the BlueScope decision could have a negative impact on the fragile economies in the Illawarra and Newcastle regions of New South Wales. BlueScope plans to pay its suppliers some 62 days after the end of the month in which the invoice was received. Business groups argue that the move could cost suppliers between $A90 million and $A100 million a year.
