Oct 03, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian universities seem powerless to compete as foreign institutions lure away their best researchers. Astrobiologist Paul Davies has departed Macquarie University to take up a position at Arizona State University in the US. Several other top scientists have been poached by US and UK institutions in 2006. Paul Boreham of the University of Queensland is researching the problem. He says Australians tend to be wooed by foreign universities' superior facilities and salaries, and most never return.
