Death knell sounded for small wineries.
Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2006

Nov 16, 2006 (Food Week - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A 2005 Deloitte survey would seem to support the comments of David Lochhead, the co-founder of the Small Winemakers Centre. Lochhead says that many small wineries are struggling to survive on just cellar-door sales, and a number have got the "For Sale" sign up. According to the Deloitte survey, in excess of 40 per cent of wineries claimed that they were losing money. The Small Winemakers Centre, which was founded by Lochhead and his wife Susie in 1987, is located in the Hunter Valley wine region of New South Wales. It has a cafe and promotes wines from various small wineries in the area.
