Domestic airfares reach for the skies as profits soar.

Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2006

Nov 14, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian airlines, Qantas and Virgin Blue, have been increasing their airfares for domestic flights. The prices have been rising since March 2004 and could possibly climb even higher in 2007. The price of both Qantas economy and business class seats has been rising. American Express, which owns a big travel agency network, noted that Qantas and Virgin Blue have lifted airfares by around 13 or 14 on domestic routes. One analyst believes that the duopoly of these two major airlines could lead to airfares rising sharply in 2007.
