Nov 07, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A private member's bill allowing therapeutic cloning was passed by the Australian Senate on 7 November 2006 on a conscience vote. The Bill succeeded by two votes and will now go to the House of Representatives, where it is believed to have more support. The legislation was introduced by Liberal Party Senator Kay Patterson. It has been the subject of fierce and passionate debate. Those in favour claim the it will benefit humankind. The new law had cross-party support from several prominent women senators.
