Top cops snared in dodgy tax scheme.

Nov 05, 2006 (The West Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- An investigation by the Australian Taxation Office has led to raids by police in Western Australia (WA). It is alleged that bankrupt and banned accountant Ramon Ronald Theodore Osborne had set up a trust account to defraud clients and gain some $A7m in total via their income tax returns. As a consequence of the illegal scheme being uncovered, law suits are being brought by the clients who lost money. These include many high-ranking WA police officers as well as thoroughbred horse racing industry members such as jockeys. The ATO has levied tax bills ranging between $A10,000 and $A100,000 on those affected by the affair, which was based on tree plantation investments.
