Fanciful wind statistics.
Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2006
Nov 01, 2006 (Electrical World - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Greenpeace supports the notion of having 15 per cent of the world's electricity needs generated by wind power. However, based on the current installed capacity of wind power around the world of 59,000 MW, and the world's estimated power needs of 23,072 billion kilowatt hours by 2030, it is highly unlikely that this figure will be achieved. When kilowatt hours are converted to megawatts (MW), Greenpeace's target would equate to 395,068MW. With the average wind tower generating 2MW, to achieve this figure will require a huge number of towers. The target looks even more unachievable when it is reckoned that wind power only works for about 30 per cent of the time.
