Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2006

Dec 26, 2006 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Dale Wicks and partner Beth Norris have discovered Australia's first amber samples on the far north Queensland coast. A number of the samples contain insects, leaves, flowers, air bubbles and water from up to 15 million years ago. University of New South Wales palaeontologist Henk Godthelp, who is studying the samples, says the amber is one of the most significant fossil finds ever in Australia. Godthelp says the amber will be able to provide information about ancient lifeforms and the composition of the atmosphere and water at the time it was formed. It is also possible for DNA to be extracted from the samples.
