Dec 11, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- According to the CEO of Fairfax Media, David Kirk, Queensland's newspaper market is "mature". Rejecting rumours that Fairfax will use its $A3 billion takeover of Rural Press to launch a new south-east Queensland paper, Kirk has reiterated the strength of News Corporation's "The Courier-Mail" in Brisbane. There is further speculation in mid-December 2006 that John Fairfax Holdings will expand its online arm, especially Fairfax Media advertising sites such as Domain, Drive and MyCareer at www.mycareer.com.au. Plus ongoing rumours about Seven and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts launching a bid of $A5.50 per share for Fairfax prior to 25 December 2006.
