Dec 14, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- UAL chief financial officer, Jake Brace, recently commented on the prospect of consolidation in the US airline sector. His comments followed US Airways' announcement of a takeover bid for Delta Air Lines. UAL subsidiary, United Airlines, has made its own offer of a potential "corporate marriage" with Continental Airlines. The US airline industry is currently fragmented, having suffered collective losses of approximately $US40 billion between 2001 and 2005. Calyon Securities analyst, Ray Neidl, says the sector is now primed for consolidation.
