Fairfax & Rural Press merge.
Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2006
Dec 11, 2006 (Adbrief - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The merger of John Fairfax Holdings with Rural Press has resulted in a member of the Fairfax family once more being associated with the business. Fairfax passed out of the Fairfax family in around 1990, but a cousin, John B Fairfax, had sold his share in it before Warwick Fairfax's time at the helm, and invested $A67 million in Rural Press. John B Fairfax has said he would be delighted to be considered for a role on the board. The December 2006 merger values Fairfax at $A9 billion and expands the number of titles it owns to 240, including "The Canberra Times" and publications in New Zealand and the US.
