Commerce Commission crack-down.
Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2006
Dec 07, 2006 (New Zealand Hardware Journal - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Carter Holt Harvey has been fined $NZ900,000 for breaching the New Zealand (NZ) Trade Practices Act in late 2006. The New Zealand company submitted a guilty plea on charges of selling timber which did not consistently meet the labelled grade of MGP10. Six current or former employees are also to be prosecuted by the NZ Commerce Commission and more legal action for compensation may follow. Carter Holt Harvey had known about the mislabelling since 2001, and continued to sell it as a premium product for use in housing construction until testing in 2003 confirmed that the timber sold was not consistently of the high standard claimed.
