Dec 04, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) faces a significant payout for defaming a Sydney medical researcher. In the week beginning 27 November 2006 a New South Wales Supreme Court jury found that the ABC defamed Suzanne Hodgkinson, the director of Neurology at Liverpool Hospital, in a 2002 episode of "The Science Show". The program alleged that Hodgkinson's husband, prominent immunologist Bruce Hall, put her name on his research and directed public grants to her. The ABC formally apologised and is understood to have agreed to compensation of about $A500,000.
