Industry hits at recycling plan.

Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2006

Byline: Rachel Lebihan

Dec 04, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government has scrapped an industry-based recycling scheme in favour of regulation. The scheme for recycling computer equipment was a voluntary scheme administered by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), but not all computer hardware manufacturers are members of the association. As such, the Federal and State Governments decided, in December 2006, to develop a regulatory requirement for recycling of computer waste. Some major hardware manufacturers supported the need to recycle waste and the AIIA scheme.
