Jan 28, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian small business Gecko Gear has profited from the invention and sales success of the iPod digital music player by Apple. It produces accessories for the device, and has grown into a company with contracts overseas, such as its latest deal with Radio Shack in the US via distributor Powermove. US-based Digital Lifestyle Outfitters has also recorded phenomenal growth of 5,000 in just three years, due to the emergence of an entire new market segment centred on the iPod. Since its launch in 2001, the player has been sold 80 million times by Apple to claim a market share of almost three quarters.
