'Surge of emotion' for Irwin lifts cities' profile.

Jan 24, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The annual "City Brands Index" has been published in early 2007. The author, Simon Anholt, surveyed over 15,000 people in 20 countries. He rated the city of Sydney as number one for beauty, climate, the people and public amenities. Australia had two cities in the top 10, with Melbourne coming in at number eight. Anholt believes that the tide of emotion which flooded the globe after the untimely death of wildlife documentary maker Steve Irwin has helped to put Australia to the fore. Tim Riches, of Futurebrand, is an expert on brands. He noted that Melbourne has a high profile globally because it hosts so many sporting events.
