What a catch: the cricket oval that saves water.
Australasian Business Intelligence, January, 2007

Jan 21, 2007 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The University of New South Wales (NSW) has developed a strategy to allow stormwater runoff to seep into an aquifer. The project could prevent valuable drinking water from being wasted in a small part of Sydney while the rest of the city is subjected to the usual flooding and interruption to transport services. A "giant percolation pit" underneath the university's cricket oval was installed in November 2006 and refills the aquifer, which provides the institution with its non-potable water. The Australian Government is encouraging NSW authorities to adopt a similar strategy across Sydney.
