Moving music set to kill off CDs.

Jan 18, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has issued its "Digital Music Report 2007". The study shows that online purchases of music are now worth $US2bn ($A2.5bn) per annum globally, and make up 10 of the market. This is forecast to reach 25 by 2010 by IFPI chair and CEO John Kennedy, who adds that piracy and copyright violations continue to be a problem. The release of Apple's iTunes store however has led to greater acceptance of digital rights management by consumers, who are also starting to use mobile telephone handsets with built-in MP3 player capability in significant numbers.
