Jan 11, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian sharemarket posted solid gains on 11 January 2007, with the S&P/ASX 200 gaining 44 points to close at 5,564.9. The All Ordinaries Index finished 46 points higher at 5,542.7. Rio Tinto advanced $A1.49 to $A71.59 and BHP Billiton added $A0.61 to end the session at $A24.62. Alesco Corporation was $A0.47 stronger at $A11.42 and Virgin Blue gained $A0.14 to finish at $A2.44. Over $A10bn worth of shares were traded on the day, well above the daily average for the last six months.
