Economy tipped to show pick-up.

Australasian Business Intelligence, January, 2007

Byline: Jeffrey Hutton

Jan 01, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Rising exports and domestic demand in the three months to December 2006 should have boosted the Australian economy. In a January 2007 economics report by AAP, annual growth of 2.4 was expected and the GDP over the year rose by 2.2. The continuing boom in commodities seems to have offset the interest rate rises in 2006. The growth figures combined with an unemployment rate of 4.6 is causing companies to increase inventories to meet demand.
