States push to open up waterfront.
Australasian Business Intelligence, January, 2007

Jan 30, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- There are moves to improve the level of competition on Australia's waterfronts. Several state governments feel that they are dealing with a duopoly of Toll Holdings and DP World. The New South Wales (NSW) Government wants to discuss strategies with Victoria and Queensland that would allow new entrants to the ports. The move is supported by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC). A consortium, Australian International Container Terminals, is keen to become a third stevedoring group in Australia. The two incumbents claim that they want a "level playing field" with rivals.
