Feb 06, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Shanghai Jiao Tong University has placed 15 Australian universities in its list of the top 500 higher education institutions in 2007. The rankings are determined by one of the "Berlin principles", whereby universities are judged over five broad fields. At 37th in life and agriculture sciences, the University of Western Australia received the highest ranking in an individual field. Other prominent Australian tertiary institutions in the top 100 in individual fields include the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland and the Australian National University.
