Feb 26, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Computer Society has staged a political forum in the lead-up to the New South Wales (NSW) election. Commerce Minister John Della Bosca and Opposition spokesperson for the IT sector Greg Pearce both stressed the importance of the industry, which employs some 195,000 people in NSW. Della Bosca noted the Government had made it easier for small firms to compete for public contracts, by addressing issues such as unlimited liability. Pearce said the Government lacked a long-term plan for the industry, that set the horizon for beyond a decade. The Greens' John Kaye also gave his views on issues such as open-source software and the digital divide.
