Feb 26, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Tim Warner is among a growing number of Australians concerned at the privacy implications of a new smart card. The Australian Department of Human Services' proposed welfare and health benefits payments card will contain a significant amount of sensitive data about the bearer, and opposition against the project is coming even from within the Federal Government's backbench. Warner, a Liberal Party MP himself, says an information campaign for voters will be undertaken. University of New South Wales Cyberspace Law Centre co-director Graham Greenleaf also argues the enabling legislation for the smart card is flawed in its current form.
