Mar 06, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian sharemarket rallied on 6 March 2007, ending a five-day losing streak. The S&P/ASX 200 rose 118.2 points to finish at 5,771.8, while key Asian stock market indices also posted solid gains. The resources sector led the recovery, with Rio Tinto advancing $A1.41 to close at $A75 and Santos rising $A0.16 to $A9.32. Woolworths added $A0.94 to be $A27.69 at the close of trade, while ASX Limited was down $A0.05 at $A41.35. Lend Lease rose $A0.76 to $A18.21 and Suncorp-Metway closed $A0.80 higher at $A20.80.
