[431] The new CGT small business changes - good news, but still complex.
Australasian Business Intelligence, March, 2007
Byline: Terry Hayes
Mar 26, 2007 (Weekly Tax Bulletin - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The new capital gains tax (CGT) concessions for small business were discussed at the 2007 Taxation Institute of Australia's National Convention. Chris Evans, of the University of New South Wales, said that the changes present planning opportunities in a number of areas, including the repealed partnership test and the new "significant individuals" rules. On a philosophical point, Evans suggested that the concessions would be better structured so that they help small businesses to become successful, rather than serving to reward businesses that have already achieved success.
