OneSteel could forge world presence.

Mar 18, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's competition regulator will shortly make a decision that will have huge implications for the nation's steel industry. It will decide whether to allow a merger between OneSteel and Smorgon Steel. Approval will give OneSteel a range of new growth options and provide immediate synergies. OneSteel boasts that its production techniques and recycling are among the most efficient in the world, and CEO Geoff Plummer believes that the company would benefit if a global carbon tax were introduced in an orderly manner. It already has plants in the US and Asia, and plans more.
