Research shows deaf should be jurors.

Australasian Business Intelligence, March, 2007

Byline: Rachel Nickless

Mar 29, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- In Australia and the UK blind or deaf people are ineligible for jury duty, but this is being reconsidered in 2007. The Macquarie University academic, Jemina Napier, and a law lecturer, David Spencer, have evaluated whether the inclusion of deaf people on juries would affect the judicial process. It has been concluded preliminarily from their study that deaf people have the same comprehension levels as other jurors, therefore deserve to be eligible for jury service. Nonetheless, Napier and Spencer agree that more research is required.
