Mar 28, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A study released by Hay Group adds to the growing body of evidence which suggests that mergers generally do not succeed. The Hay study found that over 90 per cent of mergers and acquisitions in Europe have not met expectations. This is because intangible factors such as governance and human capital were overlooked while too much attention was paid to factors such as financials and systems. Indeed, many studies show that corporate takeovers often destroy economic value rather than delivering the benefits that were anticipated.
