US duties spark China trade row.

Apr 01, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The US Government has made a significant trade decision concerning China. It has imposed steep tariffs on imports of Chinese paper products. This has not been welcomed by the Chinese Government, which will appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The US classes China as a non-market economy and is angry at the fact that the Chinese Government gives subsidies to its own paper manufacturers. It is possible that the US could begin to impose tariffs on other Chinese products, to ensure what it calls a "level playing field".
