Apr 11, 2007 (The Weekly Times - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Victoria's National Party wants an investigation into poor retention rates in government schools in rural areas. It plans to formally ask the Victorian Government that the all-party parliamentary education and training committee investigate the problem, which the National Party contends is particularly serious for young males in regions such as the Mallee. According to the Department of Education's own figures, year seven to year 12 retention rates for government schools in rural Victoria have fallen from 72 per cent to 68.5 per cent since 2002.
