Business saddled with $3b burden of drug use.

Apr 22, 2007 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- It has been determined that illegal drugs cost Australian business more than $A3bn a year through absenteeism, lost productivity, crime and traffic accidents. The report, by a team of economists for the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation, found that the total cost to the nation from illegal drugs is at least $A6.7bn, with drugs redirecting resources from legal enterprises that supply goods and services and pay taxes. David Collins from Macquarie University, Robert Marks from the University of New South Wales and Helen Lapsley from the University of Queensland indicated that there is significant potential for a reduction in illegal drug use to improve export competitiveness...
