Apr 19, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- As chair of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), it is important to point out how vital evidence is. The watchdog agency can protect small business operators from unfair and illegal trade practices, and afford remedies to those whose business may have failed because of such behaviour by larger predators. However in order to take legal action, the ACCC must have solid evidence backing up any complaints made to it. A recent example was the successful prosecution of cosmetics retailing franchise Jurlique, in which price maintenance was punished by the Federal Court with fines totalling $A3.4m.
