Apr 19, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Two infrastructure funds spun off by Australian investment bank Macquarie Bank will share in the purchase of a UK digital radio operator. O2 Airwave is being divested for $A4.8bn by Spanish telco Telefonica, which is looking to deal with debts that have exceeded EUR50bn ($A81bn) and could also sell TV program producer Endemol. Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group and Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund will each have 50 of Airwave, a provider of secure telco services to police and other British emergency agencies. The pair plan to retain the acquisition for at least a decade.
